The first monograph of Schneemann's visual art, from the painting-constructions of the early 1960s to more recent altered photographs and multi-media installations. Her reputation as a pioneering performance artist and filmmaker is international — yet she has always been an innovative painter and this work has more lately become known through gallery and museum exhibitions. This well-illustrated publication presents in one volume the catalogues to Schneemann's two Hutchinson Gallery shows, covering work from 1960-1982. Included are two critical essays, twelve full-color plates, eighteen reproductions in black-and-white, a bibliography, a biographical chronology, and an original two-color serigraph from the "Beruit" series, signed by the artist.
